On a sunny January afternoon, a young stary-eyed student, strolled along the streets of downtown Charlotte Amalie with a few of her closest friends. 👀
They heard a rumor that the handsome movie star, Dana Andrews was visiting and were hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
Dana Andrews with Richard Widmark and Gary Merrill were filming the movie, The Frogmen.
Searching for the Movie Star 🔎
With camera in hand, Marlene and her friends walked along the busy Main Street, perusing the stores and sidewalks for the handsome star.
Suddenly, among a small crowd of bystanders, she spotted a face she had seen on the big screen.
To her delightful surprise, it was the famous movie star they had been searching for!
Mr. Andrews was stepping out of the Elverhoj store on Main street and heading towards the Grand Hotel.
Elverhoj, was a store that sold tropical island outfits. Inside, was a small bar with refreshments for shopping patrons and their guests.🍷
Posing with Dana Andrews!
The girls giggled amongst themselves and decided to follow Mr. Andrews, while mustering the courage to ask for a photograph.
When they got to the Emancipation Park, just in front of the Grand Hotel, they nervously approached him.
"Mr. Andrews", my mother softly said, May we have a photograph with you?" He instantly replied, Why, yes!
The school girls were thrilled! Within minutes, two unidentified sailors quickly jumped into the photo. 📷
Do you have a celebrity story to share? Ask your family members. You may be surprised. I never would have known about this story, if I wasn't curious about this old photo tucked away in my mother's album. 📕
