The men in my family loved cars! ๐
Myย great grandfather started importing Chevrolets in the 1930s and myย grandfather followed suit in the 1940s.
His specialty was Hudsons and Studebakers.
The Hudson Motor Dealership
Leon A. Mawsonย opened his first showroom on Main Street at 11 Dronningens Gade on August 18, 1946.
He had been selling Hudson cars since 1937, but this establishment was his very own.
It was a personal accomplishment he was quite proud of.
Like many of the stores during this time period, there was always aย mishmash of unrelated items being sold.
Along with a brand new Super Terraplane Sedan, were radios, Coty cosmetics, Baldwin pianos, Kohler lights and various hardware items. ย ๐นย ๐ ย ๐ป
The attempt to be all things to all people didn’t last. ย
By the 1950’s, Mr. Mawson converted the space to a very popular ice cream shop called,ย Mawson’s Coffee Shop.
Below are a few clippings about Hudson Motors and the new showroom from the newspapers. ๐ฐ
