Did you know that the first British Royal to visit the Virgin Islands, formerly known as the Danish West Indies, was Queen Victoria’s son, Prince Albert? 👑
When he arrived, hundreds of excited citizens gathered on the wharf to greet him!
Nearly seventy-five years later, another British Royal would attract just as much attention. 🇬🇧
A Royal Visit
The Duke and Duchess of Kent were on a West Indian Tour and stopped briefly in St. Thomas.
February 13, 1935, was a day our ancestors remembered.
As they watched them disembark, they snapped a few hurried photographs.
The Royal couple were on their way to meet with the Governor of Puerto Rico, a part of their holiday itinerary.
Unbeknown to the cheering crowds, Princess Marina was already pregnant with the couple’s first child.
The West Indian Tour
The Royal couple had recently married and were traveling on a 1500-mile honeymoon cruise.
They touched down at Trinidad, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas and briefly in Miami.
