The Lime Industry in Tortola
Here’s an interesting notice found in the archives of the Royal Danish Library about the lime industry in Tortola and how much was paid for them.Β Β
Mr. Fishlock, the Agriculturist on the island said it was already clearly demonstrated that limes would grow well in Tortola and he felt sure that the industry was well suited to the habits of the people.
He drew attention to the important fact that the crops were permanent and the trees did not require constant attention after the first two or three years.
At the end of about six years, they should be yielding a good crop annually.
It was also shown that while Tortola could never hope to export sugar, there was good a prospect of working up a considerable export business in lime juice.
