Carl Ludwig Bille
1815-1898
The painting above of St. Thomas is a beautiful oil on canvas of Charlotte Amalie.
It’s signed by the artist Carl Billie and dated 1868, the year after the dreadful hurricane and tsunami.
Here is a little more information about the artist.
“Bille was in a unique position to create splendid marine paintings, having been a professional mariner before dedicating himself to his passion for art.
His work is distinguished by a formidable grasp of realistic detail and naturalism, skills at their height in this splendid and tranquil image.”
The Auction Date is set for: June 2, 2018
Estimated price: $8,000 to $12,000.
