Photograph Collection
There is a phenomenal photograph collection up for auction this week, closing on November 21, 2017. 📷
It includes photographs of Main Street in St. Thomas, the Police Station, Emancipation Garden, Grand Hotel, Det Beltjen’s Road, Long Bay, the Danish Church, the Danish Export Trading Company, the harbour, and the Governor’s residence!
Each is framed and mounted on boards with the photographer’s mark in the corner.
Edward Fraas
Many were taken by the well-known photographer, Edward Fraas.
He was a portrait artist originally from Denmark.
Within four years of moving to the Danish West Indies, he opened a photo studio (1867).
This unique collection once belonged to bookkeeper, Anders Valstrom who worked with the Danish Export Company in St. Thomas from 1911 to 1912.
Price ~ 3,000 to 5,000 kroner, in US dollars, $475.00 to $790.00.
