Above, the Governor, Morris F. de Castro observes the Conga line at Government House, while hosting a party for the Danmark cadets.
My mother remembers fondly the pretty, lace dress she wore that evening with the tangerine lining underneath.
The first of many visits of the Danmark occurred on January 17, 1934.
She was a picturesque vessel when billowing under full sail.
About 80 cadets, aged 15 to 18 used the ship as a floating classroom.
For those interested in learning about navigation and seamanship, this was the perfect environment.
Meeting the Cadets
In the early 1950s, Governor Morris F. de Castro hosted a party for the visiting cadets.
He invited local dignitaries and their families to the reception room at Government House.
Both my mother and her sister were thrilled to attend!
My mother said after that all these years, she’s never forgotten the words she learned that night!
The young cadet taught her, jeg elsker dig, which meant, I love you. ❤
