Carnival Time
Carnival time is a festive time in the Virgin islands!
Thousands visit the islands to celebrate its history and culture partaking in food fairs, fun festivities, parades, and parties.
This vintage postcard captured a fun moment during the parade in 1958.
It had only been six years since Carnival became an annual celebration, thanks to a committee spearheaded by local radio commentator, Ron de Lugo.
Thanks to him, the first ‘revival’ Carnival took place in 1952 and was a roaring success.
This postcard reads;
“Roas’ a time, Bam-Bou-Shay and Mocko Jumbis, a make-believe spirit on his 10-foot stilts.”
“Hi, Darling,Β
Wonderful trip and charming people!
I miss you,
Gloria”
